Tirana Biennale 02: "U-Topos" New Media

New media exhibition views
National Gallery of Arts, Tirana, Alabania.

You can see the pictures after the text hereafter:

After securing technological ressources from Dell in Tirana and getting internet connexion through radio antenna (satellite network ?), we were able to show the pieces after a huge challenge (thanks to the Biennale staff who was so helpfull and good !!!) .
The main point is that when it is raining, there is no internet connexion, because the clouds and rain are working like a screen in between the antenna and the satellite .
So The new media website was displayed on local level (harddrive) and by clicking on the artist link, people were able to reach the pieces:
The focus was to give in any context (connexion or not) ressources about artist and their piece.
The new media section was situated in the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana, which is meaning we cannot escape the huge collection of gold icon from eighteen century ! we are talking about iconoly in computer sciences, we were served !
All the TFT screen were surrounded by San John, San Nicholas, San Georges and many others: they were busy to pray The Virgin mother or to fight the dragons !!
The screen on the left was dedicated to new media section website (the public can experience the pieces by themself), the screen in the center and on the right were dedicated to the artists of this section (every artist were displayed one after one during the day).
In the background in between the precious icons, you can see one of my webpaintings (search art screen) !
It has arrived destroyed in Tirana and was restored by the restoration service of the galleria:
The woman who is restoring the icons did restore my idiot painting !!! (click on the link to see the video). Many thanks for her great job: we cannot see anything today on the canvas !
One room was dedicated to the installation of Michael Mandiberg

Valéry Grancher September 2003
